AI Conferencing: Why You'd Never Want a Robot Hosting Your Call

Of all the recent technology developments, robots are becoming a mainstream bandwagon that a lot of businesses are trying to hop on. However, while this trendy tech topic could significantly benefit our society in the near future. I would argue that for now, let’s keep the AI conferencing to a minimum for everyone’s benefit, and here are a few reasons why:

1) AI conferencing won't have a "personal touch"

I have actually given this advice for conference calls: “don’t be a robot” because being personable can actually be good for business, it can enhance your efficiency during a team call, or effectiveness during a client demo. It is already too easy to lack emotion in a conference call, if a robot would host it, the tone set for that conference call would be at most uninspiring. Think of how much rapport you can build with other callers when you hear “For service in English please press 1, for French press 2.”

2) Being the first person to adopt a new technology could be catastrophic

I don’t have significant evidence to back up this argument, but think about it, would you want to be the first patient to “try” the kidney transplant? Would you want to be the first customer to try plastic surgery? I understand that it takes customers taking certain risks to advance this technology, but would you risk it? Sure the worst thing that can happen with AI conferencing is for your conference to fail, but do you really want to risk it?

3) Using AI conferencing is high risk, low reward

Speaking of risk, with the lack of experience with robots hosting conference calls, you might come across major maintenance issues or malfunctioning. Imagine having a big, important business call, and because of under-tested technology, the AI conferencing robot host was unable to accommodate all of the participants, causing the call to break down. So by letting a robot host your conference call you are risking total catastrophe, to potentially gain a robot that hosts your call?

4) The entire plot of the 2007 Transformers film with Shia LaBeouf

You saw it, right? That's why you should be afraid of robots.
